Bob Daniels wins WCHA coach of year; LSSU’s Globke takes top rookie spot

The WCHA announced their league awards today, with Ferris State and Lake Superior State names appearing on the list.

Bob Daniels, head coach of the No. 6 Ferris State Bulldogs, was named the league’s coach of the year after guiding his team to a 25-9-3 regular-season record.

Meanwhile, Lake Superior State forward Alex Globke was named WCHA Rookie of the Year.

For Daniels, it’s the latest in a long list of accomplishments for the Bulldogs’ bench boss. The two-time National Coach of the Year led FSU to the regular-season title in their first year with the new WCHA. Its’ the Bulldogs’ second conference title in three years, and they are now the third team to win both WCHA and CCHA titles.

Globke, a Waterford native, recorded 31 points (12 goals and 19 assists) in his freshman season with the Lakers. He led the WCHA in rookie goals, assists and points, and he is currently seventh in the national scoring race for freshmen. It started with a bang for Globke; he scored 15 points in his first 12 NCAA games.
