The WCHA announced their latest players of the week, and two Michigan natives were honored by the league.

Michigan Tech’s Blake Pietila was named offensive player of the week, while Ferris State goaltender C.J. Motte was named defensive player of the week, it was announced today.

Pietila, a Brighton native, earned Winter Carnival MVP honors last weekend when he scored four goals and six total points for the Huskies. The MTU junior captain helped his team to their second consecutive sweep when they beat Alabama Huntsville twice to move up to third place in the WCHA standings. Pietila recorded a pair of goals on Friday, then two goals and two assists on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Motte, a St. Clair native, continued his impressive junior season by stopping 58 of the 60 shots he faced against Northern Michigan to lead the Bulldogs to a home-ice sweep. The Ferris State goaltender played four shutout periods and held the Wildcats scoreless on eight of nine power-play opportunities en route to 7-1 and 2-1 wins.
