The National Collegiate Hockey Conference announced their players of the week today, and two Broncos made the list.

Senior forward Shane Berschbach (Clawson) was named offensive player of the week, it was announced by the league today. Meanwhile, teammate Kenney Morrison, a sophomore blueliner, was named defenseman of the week.

Berschbach recorded three points in Western’s series at No. 4/3 St. Cloud State this past weekend, scoring a goal in both games and adding an assist in the series opener. On Friday, his two points helped the Broncos overcome a three-goal deficit to pull out a tie and a shootout win. Then, on Saturday, the Clawson native scored the game-winning goal in the third period to give the Broncos a 2-1 win and five out of six points on the weekend. It was the third time Berschbach has claimed the award.

Meanwhile, Morrison had a career weekend for the Broncos, recording four assists, a +1 rating and two blocked shots. He recorded a career-high three assists on Friday, sparking the Broncos’ rally, and then added the primary assist on the game-winner on Saturday.

The Broncos cracked the USCHO Top 20 poll after the two wins over the weekend; Western Michigan is now No. 19 in the nation.
