According to a report from Yahoo! Sports, “The Big Chill” still reigns supreme.
Nick Cotsonika, Yahoo!’s lead NHL writer and University of Michigan alum, reported late Friday that due to the agreement the NHL had with Guinness, the official recorded attendance for the 2014 NHL Winter Classic did not break that of the 2010 game between Michigan and Michigan State at the Big House.
The Big Chill game has been officially listed at an attendance mark of 104,173 after Guinness analyzed photos of the game, according to Cotsonika’s report. Meanwhile, the Winter Classic’s 105,491 announced attendance was that of ticket sales, but not of tickets actually scanned at the entrances of the Big House.
Weather, and the ensuing traffic problems, affected entrance counts. However, Cotsonika said that the NHL is still in talks with the record-keepers, and the matter might not be settled just yet.
