Yesterday, Andreas Athanasiou was named the Ontario Hockey League’s player of the week. Today, the Canadian Hockey League office upgraded the honor.

The Red Wings’ prospect was named the CHL’s player of the week today, meaning that of the three top-tier junior leagues across Canada (and the U.S.), Athanasiou stood out above the rest.

The Ontario Hockey League announced on Dec. 9 that he had been named their player of the week (for the week ending Dec. 8).

Athanasiou, who recorded two goals and five assists in two games this week, also finished with a +4 rating for his Barrie Colts squad.

The Red Wings’ fourth-round pick from 2012, who recently just signed an entry-level contract with the Original Six club, leds Barrie with 39 points in 28 games, after racking up 67 in 66 last year.
