Van Andel Institute partners with Wings for ‘Purple Community’ Hockey Fights Cancer Night

The Red Wings are teaming up with the Van Andel Institute to continue their battle against cancer.

Special tickets can be purchased for the Red Wings vs. New York Rangers game this Saturday for a ‘Purple Community’ Hockey Fights Cancer Night.

Tickets can be purchased for $100, with a porition going to support the Van Andel Institute. The ticket comes with a Purple Community T-shirt and the opportunity to join other supporters and defenseman Jakub Kindl on the ice for a group photo after the game.

Other Hockey Fights Cancer Night activities will include:

  • Free Purple Community rally towel for all 20,066 game attendees;
  • Free Purple Community signs given to all in attendance to be displayed after the ten minute mark to acknowledge those  who have been affected by cancer or a neurodegenerative disease;
  • Purple Community table on the concourse with a purple fan photo-booth;
  • 50/50 raffle benefiting Van Andel Institute;
  • Cancer survivor suite in Joe Louis Arena for invited guests of the Red Wings and Van Andel Institute;
  • Special showings of Van Andel Institute videos on the video board before and during the game.

The event is part of the Hockey Fights Cancer initiative, hosted by the NHL and the NHLPA since December 1998. Since its inception, Hockey Fights Cancer has raised more than $12.8 million to support national and local cancer research institutions, children’s hospitals, player charities and local cancer organizations.

The ‘Purple Community’ is Van Andel Institute’s grassroots fundraising initiative which helps connect people who want to fight cancer and neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s. For more information, visit PurpleCommunity.org.
