Five Michigan natives selected for 2013 U.S. Women’s National University Team

USA Hockey announced on Wednesday the first 17 players to be named to their 2013 U.S. Women’s National University Team, and five Michigan natives were selected.

The team, which will compete in the 2013 Winter World University Games in Trention, Italy from Dec. 10-21, will complete their roster in late October.

The Michigan natives selected for the team are:

Staci Burlingame – Forward – Michigan State University – St. Clair Shores

Monica Korzon – Forward – University of Michigan – Ann Arbor

“We have a tremendously talented group of 17 women on our roster,” said Katie Holmgren, USA Hockey’s coordinator of women’s adult hockey, who will serve as general manager of the 2013 Women’s National University Team, in a release. “While we were excited to compete for the first time in Erzurum, Turkey, we have a great core group of players and expect to perform well in the tournament this year.”
