Shaved Ice – August 13

Happy Tuesday.

Have you seen the new digital format of MiHockeyMag yet? We’re pretty excited about it. Click the cover image below to see it for yourself, no matter what device you’re using to read this right now.

The Detroit Free Press is holding a vote right now to determine who has the best sports logo in our state. Three of the final four teams come as no surprise – the Wings, the Tigers and the Lions all topped their opponents each round. But the fourth, well, all we can really say is “Go Bulldogs!” Ferris State is taking on the big boys in the semifinals, and due to the fact that they have quite the prominent hockey team, we’re pulling for them to knock off one of the pro teams (or two).

Speaking of the Wings, preseason tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. today. Detroit will play home games with the Bruins, Blackhawks, Penguins and Maple Leafs as tune-ups for the regular season. We’re just glad there actually is a preseason this time around.

Since we last posted a Shaved Ice, we have had a few big articles go up on MiHockeyNow.com. Here’s a look:

Plus, we’re excited about our new partnership with the heads of high school hockey – check that out right here.

Speaking of high school hockey, how’s this for a throwback?

Jacques Martin is back in the NHL, this time as an assistant coach to Dan Bylsma and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Is he already Bylsma’s replacement? Only time will tell…

Player agent Bill Zito is joining the Columbus Blue Jackets as their new assistant GM. Certainly an interesting leadership group now – first European-born GM in league history, and now an agent.

The Big Ten hockey media day will take place in Saint Paul, Minn., on Sept. 19. Who’s driving?

We posted a photo gallery from the Eastside Elite Hockey league championship game yesterday. Check it out by clicking on the photo below.

We’ll be back with more hockey news shortly.
