The Red Wings take on the Phoenix Coyotes tonight at Joe Louis Arena for a crucial two points in the standings. Detroit currently sits at No. 9 in the West standings with four games to go. Columbus has three points on the Wings, but they’ve played two more games. Detroit also has to deal with Dallas and tonight’s foe – it’s all a big mess between No. 7 (Minnesota) and No. 11 (Phoenix).
Meanwhile, the Grand Rapids Griffins wrapped up the Midwest Division over the weekend, and they’re now preparing for the 2013 Calder Cup Playoffs. They’re the No. 3 seed in the West, and they’ll start in Houston for a five-game set with the Aeros. Houston, by the way, will be moving to Iowa, and will be known as the Iowa Wild starting next season.
The Whalers had a double-overtime thriller yesterday, ended by Rickard Rakell, to even their series with London at 1-1. Tom Wilson had a hat trick in the win, and he was named OHL Player of the Week for his effort.
