Shaved Ice – Dec. 21

Friday fun day.

It’s finally here – we’ve released our list of the 50 most influential people in Michigan’s hockey scene. Click here, or follow the graphic I’m inserting below, to see who we named to the list this year.

Check out our article on how the construction of a high school hockey program at Grand Rapids Public is going – this is a great read for all hockey people. Great effort by coach Brian Bellgraph to try to construct something of this magnitude in the inner city.

Governor Snyder signed legislation today to continue with both new transit and lighting for Detroit…and that arena we’re all hoping to see constructed for the Red Wings.

And don’t forget about those high school hockey at The Joe photo galleries we posted yesterday:

No college hockey to talk about right now, since we’re all just sitting here waiting patiently for the Great Lakes Invitational to get here.

Mikael Samuelsson says that the owners are “playing pretty dirty” in this whole ordeal. You remember Samuelsson, he was that former Red Wing that re-signed with the team in the off-season and we haven’t gotten to see him play because of…you know…

We’ll be at Compuware tonight instead, to check out a charity hockey game with the Red Wings’ alumni. More on that later tonight.

Saw this video a few minutes ago, and it sure did get me fired up for B1G hockey. Let’s get it going!

Here’s the TSN SportsCentre Year in Review for the NHL lockout – in case you need to get caught up or want to keep reading about sad things.

Pierre LeBrun talks about a charity game in Toronto, where everybody wishes that they were playing regular games instead.

The players’ union is apparently requesting more meetings, don’t know if the league’s not responding or if it’s just PR talk.

We’ve got a contest up and running on both our Twitter and Facebook pages. Here’s one of the graphics…

MiHockey is giving away five Reebok 20K sticks through Christmas Eve. Tweet something good you're doing this holiday season to @MiHockeyNow and use the hashtag #MiNiceList to be entered to win.

We’ll be back on Monday…but probably not Tuesday. Have a great weekend everyone, stay safe while you’re doing your last-minute shopping.
