Big weekend of college hockey starts tonight. Here’s the match-ups we’re watching:

  • Michigan at Ferris StateWill the Wolverines find their offense on the road?
  • Northern Michigan at Western MichiganBroncos looking to pull away from the pack, having only played six conference games so far.
  • Lake Superior at Notre DameThe Fighting Irish looked impressive against the Wolverines…
  • Ohio State at Michigan StateFirst home game in 20 days for the Spartans.
  • Minnesota-Duluth at Michigan TechLight November schedule means a well-rested Huskies squad.

Meanwhile, the Griffins wrap up their November schedule with a game against Texas at Van Andel.

In major junior action, the Whalers host Ottawa tonight in Plymouth, while the Spirit play in Sarnia.

And former Whalers goaltender Matt Hackett is our Michi-gamer of the night after he helped lead the Huston Aeros to a shootout win over Taylor Hall and the Oklahoma City Barons.

Here is the latest edition of “Inside Michigan Hockey.”

Apparently the federal mediators couldn’t crack the code that is the bickering between the owners and the players. The next step, according to Gary Bettman, is a separate meeting between just some players and some owners. Perhaps that will help cut through the…red tape…and get something moving so we don’t lose a full season of hockey again.

A collection of NHL stars have headed to the desert to skate with members of the Coyotes, including Ryan Miller and Sidney Crosby. Guess it’s warm there, so it’s not the worst idea in the world.

Steven Stamkos is the latest player to consider heading to Europe for hockey. The more superstars consider leaving, the worse it looks for NHL hockey this year. Stammer (along with James Neal and Steve Downie) has been skating in a backyard rink built by Gary Roberts – talk about a Field of Dreams-like set-up.

There’s a dispute in Fenton raging about building an outdoor rink, apparently. I don’t care about city ordinances and policies and such, just build the rink. Outdoor hockey should be enjoyed by all.

And, in other news, a Russian youth hockey game with non-stop brawls. Shout-out to Deadspin for finding this…gem.

We’ll have coverage both from East Lansing and Big Rapids tonight, plus whatever else we come up with tonight. Keep an eye on our Twitter account.
