CCHA Players of the Week – Nov. 12

The Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced their players of the week, and there’s plenty of Michigan connections to recognize.

After a hat trick and an assist against arch-rival Michigan, Spartans forward Matt Berry was named offensive player of the week. Meanwhile, Western Michigan’s Dennis Brown was named defenseman of the week, and Livonia native Riley Barber (and Miami forward) was named rookie of the week.

Postgame® Offensive Player of the Week

Matt Berry, MSU

So., F (Canton, MI)

Berry had a hat trick and an assist, and was the Perani Cup first star, in a 7-2 win over Michigan on Saturday that gave the Spartans a series split. He finished the weekend +1, with six shots on goal.

Gladiator® Defenseman of the Week

Dennis Brown, WMU                           

Jr. (Cypress, CA)

Brown had two assists and was the Perani Cup third star in a 3-1 win over Bowling Green on Friday. He had an assist, scored the winning goal in the shootout and was the Perani Cup second star in a 2-2 tie/shootout win against the Falcons on Saturday.

Goaltender of the Week

John Keeney, UA

Fr. (Twin Peaks, CA)

Keeney stopped 33 shots and was the Perani Cup second star in a 1-1 tie at Ohio State on Friday and made 32 saves and was the Perani Cup second star in a 3-1 win over the Buckeyes on Saturday.

Gongshow Rookie of the Week

Riley Barber, MIA

F (Livonia, MI)

Barber had a goal and two assists, and was the Perani Cup first star, in a 5-2 win over Northern Michigan on Friday. He added an assist in a 2-2 tie/shootout win over the Wildcats on Saturday and finished the weekend with six shots on goal and four blocks.
