Shaved Ice – June 25

MiHockey editor Michael Caples here with you on a Monday that has plenty of Michigan hockey-related material to talk about.

Quick hits

We traveled to Pittsburgh this weekend to watch all the Michigan connections get drafted into hockey’s highest league. Being some of the first people to speak with players in the midst of what surely is the highlight of their young hockey careers made for a great experience.

Here’s a list of the players we have already featured on MiHockeyNow.com, with more to come. Click the player’s name to read more about his draft experience:

Again, we’ve got more coming throughout the day, including features on Patrick Sieloff, Matt DeBlouw, Boo Nieves, Martin Frk, Connor Carrick, and more.

Also, check out our photo galleries from Day 1 and Day 2 of the Draft.

Outside the Mitten

Trades were easy to come by during the NHL Draft. Pittsburgh GM Ray Shero thrilled the Consol Energy Center crowd when he announced that the club had traded Jordan Staal to Carolina for Brandon Sutter, Brian Dumoulin, and the Hurricanes’ eighth overall pick.

Here’s a list of all the trades that happened while all the GMs sat within the same ice surface.

The Wings’ attempts to land Ryan Suter and/or Zach Parise will get a little bit more difficult now, as the Penguins have cleared up cap space for what appears to be the same targeted players.
