Bearded Ice – May 10

Bearded Ice, Shaved Ice meets the NHL playoff tradition of not shaving.

Team USA is back on the winning side of things.

Quick hits

At the World Championship tournament today, the U.S. topped Belarus 5-3, which improves their record to 2-1-0-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L).  Muskegon native and Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader scored on a redirection 1:39 into the contest to get Team USA off to the right start. Abdelkader finished with a goal and an assist – he was named the Americans’ player of the game – while Michigan connections Jeff Petry, Max Pacioretty, Cam Fowler, and Jack Johnson all picked up assists in the win that bumped the U.S. to third place in their group.

In case you missed it yesterday, Jack Johnson’s former team – the Michigan Wolverines – released some new threads. See the jersey designs right here.

Meanwhile at the World Championship, Red Wings defenseman Jonathan Ericsson apparently has a back injury.

Highlight reel

Here’s highlights from the Team USA game. Gotta love the commentary too; sounds like you’re listening to a European soccer broadcast.

Outside the Mitten

Ann Arbor native Austin Watson continues to have success in the OHL playoffs, making him our Michi-gamer of the night.

The Capitals managed to keep their season alive last night, beating Washington to force a Game 7.  That tilt – can’t wait for it – will be on Saturday night.

And a little more from the Rangers…John Tortorella says he’s not happy with his team, in a John Tortorella-type of way.
