Shaved Ice – Nov. 28

Welcome back to the work week, friends. I hope that you enjoyed Thanksgiving, and that you managed to turn it into an extended weekend.

Quick hits

The Red Wings have reported that Patrick Eaves will need surgery for a fractured jaw after the forward was struck by a puck in Saturday’s win over Nashville. Here is my recap from the game, and an article with more information on Eaves’ injury.

Michigan State had a big weekend at Munn Ice Arena. Here’s our recap of how the Spartans beat No. 3 Minnesota 4-3 Friday night, despite playing without captain Torey Krug. The two played to a 4-4 tie the next night. MSU is now 7-2-1 over their last 10 games.

Things were a little different for the University of Michigan. On Friday, the Wolverines lost 4-1 to Northeastern, and on Saturday, lost they lost 6-3 to No. 11 Union.

With a 5-2 win on Saturday, the Lake State Lakers posted a weekend split with Notre Dame. The win broke the Fighting Irish’s 11-game unbeaten streak.

The Whalers dropped both of their weekend games, while the Spirit posted back-to-back wins.

Highlight reel

Here’s the highlights from the Red Wings’ Saturday night win.

Outside the Mitten

A strange year for the Washington Capitals continues. The club just announced that they have fired Bruce Boudreau, and Dale Hunter will step in as the new head coach. Boudreau was 201-88-40 as bench boss of the Capitals, and the fastest coach in modern NHL history to reach 200 wins – yet Washington sits at eighth in the East, and there have been many reports of him feuding with captain Alex Ovechkin.
